Problem Statement

Let f:R→Rf: \mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R} be a continuous function, and a<ba<b be two points in the image of ff (that is, there exists x,yx,y such that f(x)=af(x)=a and f(y)=bf(y)=b). Show that there is an interval II such that f(I)=[a,b]f(I)=[a,b].
