Problem Statement

Let CC and CC' be two concentric circles of radii rr and rr' respectively. Determine how much the quotient r/rr'/r must be worth so that in the limited crown (annulus) through CC and CC' there are eight circles CiC_i , i=1,...,8i = 1, . . . , 8, which are tangent to CC and to CC' , and also that CiC_i is tangent to Ci+1C_{i+1} for i=1,...,7i = 1, . . . ,7 and C8C_8 tangent to C1C_1 .
