Problem Statement

For real numbers aa and bb define f(x)=1ax+bf(x) = \frac{1}{ax+b}. For which aa and bb are there three distinct real numbers x1,x2,x3x_1,x_2,x_3 such that f(x1)=x2f(x_1) = x_2, f(x2)=x3f(x_2) = x_3 and f(x3)=x1f(x_3) = x_1?
